MGMapsRecently a lot of my colleague spent a lot of time on Google Earth and Virtual Earth, it was common that several of them had satellite maps on their screen. They marked their home, hotels they lived in and so on on maps. One day, I saw the team manager was browsing satellite map again. I noticed that he marked a turn of a narrow road in a field. I asked him why this location was special. He told me that he crashed his motorbike there some time ago… After while, I asked him whether he was also interested in Google Sky, he said he knew nobody lived in the place where the Google Skype showed… Had no comment at all :-P

To me, Java client of Google maps on mobile phones is more useful, because mostly when I need to check maps I am always on road with access to PC.

Mobile GMaps is the free Java client of Google maps I often used. The main reason is that my E680i doesn’t support proxy configuration at the system level, so most free Java client of Google maps including the one released by Google itself cannot work on it with the WAP connection. Mobile GMaps was the only Java application I found that had option to set proxy. Mobile GMaps was really helpful I was lost somewhere.   Mobile GMaps provides the option to use map data cached in advance, but I am not sure how to make it work. So I used the data downloaded on fly via GPRS/3G, which will be very costly for users without data plan. MGMaps also can be connected with GPS module, which I didn’t try yet.

More information can be found on the official website of MGMaps.
